We are surrounded by open countryside with the front directly overlooking the river
with uninterrupted views, both back and front, across open farmland. We have
excellent bait storage facilities with a large cold room and smaller fridges to
keep daily bait requirements. The catch records from the past few years support
a continuing increase of mature bream in the lake annually. There is a list of
rules which must be followed and a dip tank which must be used. These carp are wild
carp I have been told and most of them have never been caught before.. Good
bags of bream are being caught both on the roadside and the bank side of Dolygaer.
Locating these shoals is the angler's first challenge and they should keep their
eyes open for large areas of coloured water which is often caused when a shoal
has been stirring up the bottom for food.
I use a float paternoster to stop the bait towing the float around the swim, this
means a sliding float on the surface with a lead of at least an ounce and a half
on the bottom of the lake. They can survive in waters that provide their natural
food source of minnows, crustaceans, insects and worms. This was the first River
Don rod and line caught salmon for over 150 years. Pensioners and disabled
members are not expected to attend work parties, but it would be nice to see you.
This can easily become the trip of a lifetime.
These are available from the premises. The wrecks and reefs off Fernandina and Mayport
have been great this week for snapper, grouper and kings. Martin keeps us
up to date with his tales from the Riverbank...from writing a book to a trip to
UAE. Maggots, casters, sweetcorn and luncheon meat do well for all species whilst
those after the carp also use flavoured boilies. About 5 or 6 miles out, we stopped
briefly to feather up Mackerel for bait. Dave'sbuzzer signaled another take
as a 12 lb. The cypress swamps and river systems of the South are loaded with
areas into which it is very difficult to access in a larger boat or other means.
The bream referred to as dustbin lids,are one of the larger members of the carp
family. From Spilsby travel north on the A16 and then west on the A158 towards
Horncastle.
